Fashionable women jewellery at Stone Mania.

People who love wearing gemstone jewellery often talk to us about precious stones but when we turn the conversation around to those which are semi precious, it quickly becomes apparent how little is known about them.  Rare Larimar from the Dominican Republic is just one example and Labradorite is another but actually in the world of semi precious stones, those two are relatively well known.  Tiffany Stone, Eudialyte, Sugilite and Phosphosiderite are less well known and you can be pretty sure that few people have even heard of these.  Of course many of these gemstone varieties cannot be put in the same category as fine emeralds, rubies and sapphires but that doesn’t mean they’re not still beautiful in their own right.  Like precious stones, they too have evolved over millions of years and once cut and polished, are absolutely perfect for use in ladies gemstone jewellery.  Best still there are thousands of these types of gemstones just waiting to be discovered and in the vast majority of cases, they are generally quite affordable.

Gemstone jewellery has always been a very fashionable accessory for women and there are so many designs out there to choose from.  By doing some research online, you’ll quickly discover many rare and beautiful gemstone varieties mounted in both gold and silver and some of the colours, markings and characteristics of these gemstones are quite magnificent. With the explosion of internet shopping in recent years, the variety of ladies gemstone jewellery that is now available is almost endless and best still, it can all be purchased with the click of a mouse and delivered to your door in no time at all.

So next time someone tells you how much they love wearing gemstone jewellery, don’t be surprised if they talk about their beautiful Eudialyte pendant or Lapis Lazuli ring.  Whilst diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires are indeed some of the finest gemstones on the face of the Earth, don’t forget there are still many thousands of others out there still waiting to be discovered and which to many people, may just be quite as beautiful.

Benefits of Online Jewellery shopping

The time is not that ancient when our mothers bought accessories from their trusted brands and family jewellery makers. There was a period when buying gold jeweleries, pendants, diamonds and other precious stones.

The trend is changing, as such purchasing jewellery online has poised for a huge growth in the internet or the online business. Be it gold jewellery, diamonds, or any precious gem, the jewellery online store has seemed to cross its benchmark in the online business, and it is no way less than the traditional family jewellers or the local jewellery store in your town.
Hence, Stone Mania assured that it is a foregone conclusion that you will not deny online jewellery shopping if you are tired hanging out in and out of the township retailers only to find blunt results, and a tiring experience. Online shopping can be an entirely refreshing experience for these people.

Things to be considered when buying a Turquoise pendant

Of all the gemstones in our large and varied collection of ladies jewellery online, few are as well known and have as much history associated with them as Turquoise.  Ironically back in 2003 when we first started buying jewellery for our collection, one of the very first pieces that we were shown by our then supplier, was a magnificent Turquoise pendant in an intricate sterling silver setting.  Despite knowing very little about gemstones, this piece really captured our attention and by the time we returned to our hotel that evening, we had many more Turquoise pendants than anything else.

Turquoise is one of the oldest of all gemstones and is known to have been mined for thousands of years.  Its colour varies from sky blue to various shades of green depending on how much iron and copper it contains and different cultures generally have a preference for one colour or the other.  Much of the Turquoise that is available today is treated in some way to help maintain its colour which can change due to absorption of pollutants in the atmosphere and oils from our skin.

Anything in society which is rare, valuable and highly sought after is likely to be copied and Turquoise is no exception.  First imitated by the ancient Egyptians, Turquoise is still copied extensively today and in recent years there has been a surge of fake Turquoise jewellery on the market.  When buying a Turquoise pendant or any other piece of Turquoise jewellery, always try to do some research first and only buy from a retailer who you trust.

One of the most fascinating finds in recent times was the discovery in 1922 of the tomb of Tutankhamun and the magnificent funeral mask featuring large amounts of Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli, Carnelian and glass.  This exquisite artefact is now on display in the Egyptian museum in Cairo.

Birthstone for the month of December, a beautiful Turquoise pendant will compliment any outfit and for those ladies who like their jewellery to be noticed, Stone Mania’s collection of large and chunky Turquoise pendants crafted by hand in fine sterling silver, should not be missed.

Shopping for Jewellery Online

Over the last few years there has been a real boom in internet shopping which has resulted in an abundance of women’s jewellery online that’s available to buy with the click of a mouse.  Although it’s pretty unlikely that shopping for jewellery online will ever replace shopping on the high street completely, it has certainly made a significant dent in the market.

Some of the advantages of shopping for jewellery online include the convenience of being able to shop twenty four seven without the worry of transport, parking, crowds, queues or the weather, there’s a much greater variety of jewellery online than there is on the high street and prices also tend to be more competitive.  Being able to have purchases delivered to your door is another great benefit and many online retailers now offer free delivery.  Possibly the greatest advantage of shopping online is that it’s so easy to do research in order to compare prices to ensure you get the very best deal.
Say for example you wanted to buy a birthday present for your best friend whose birthday is a week before Christmas, she loves large and chunky gemstone jewellery and she generally wears sterling silver, so as December’s birthstone is Turquoise you decide to buy her a Turquoise pendant.  Firstly shopping in December is always going to be pretty hectic and finding somewhere on the high street to buy a Turquoise pendant is not going to be that easy and even if you were able to find somewhere, what sort of a selection are they going to have available?  On the other hand enter “Turquoise pendant” into Google and in less than 0.20 seconds you’re presented with twenty million results for that exact item.  After a few clicks of your mouse it’s pretty likely that you’ll find something you like and once you’ve paid, it could be in your hands within just a couple of days so what could be easier than that?

Some of the disadvantages of shopping online include security concerns relating to paying with your credit card, not being able to physically touch the piece of jewellery that you’re interested in, concerns over items becoming lost or damaged whilst in transit or possibly not even arriving at all, will retailers hold onto your personal details or collect other information from you and what happens if you don’t like the item that you’ve purchased?

Most of the above points can be addressed by doing some research prior to making your purchase which is very easy to do online.  Firstly always read the retailer’s terms and conditions including their returns policy, make sure they have their full contact details displayed clearly on their website, find out what methods of payment they accept and if payment is by credit card, ensure you understand what cover you have if any, through your credit card company in case there’s a problem.   Remember that using a payment gateway such as PayPal is always a good idea as they offer anonymity and excellent protection for their customers.

Internet shopping is most definitely here to stay and the amount of jewellery being purchased online is increasing year on year.  During 2012 six out of ten British adults used the internet to shop for goods online and a staggering £68.2 billion was spent which is equivalent to £2,180 for every adult in the United Kingdom.  So although there are pro’s and con’s of shopping for jewellery online, it seems that the pro’s currently outweigh the con’s.

Few Simple Guidelines Shopping Online for Jewellery

Sonja Henie was a Norwegian Olympic and world champion figure skater and a very successful Hollywood film star who at the height of her acting career, was one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood.  One of her most famous quotes was: "Jewellery takes people's minds off your wrinkles".

It is without a doubt a fact that irrespective of age, every woman loves to wear beautiful clothes and jewellery hence these items have always been in extremely high demand however with the explosion in online shopping over the past few years, this demand is now even greater.  The convenience of shopping for jewellery online, the endless variety of products to choose from and the fact that items are delivered right to your door means that more people than ever in all age groups and from every walk of life are turning to the internet instead of taking to the high street to shop for jewellery .
Jewellery has been used for a wide variety of purposes since the beginning of time and in some cultures it’s used more extensively by men than women.  Although in today’s society gemstones and precious metals can represent wealth, power and status, the main purpose for wearing them has slowly changed and they are now worn primarily for personal adornment.  Jewellery is looked upon by many as a symbol of fashion and in some cases it’s also considered to be a luxury item and a good investment.
With the almost unlimited selection of jewellery that’s now available to buy online, some may feel overwhelmed and possibly confused about where to start so here are a few important things to remember when shopping for jewellery online:
If using a search engine such as Google to look for jewellery online, keep your search term as specific as possible, so instead of using a broad term like “Gemstone Jewellery”, narrow it down to something like “Turquoise Pendants”
  • Remember there’s life beyond page one of Google!  Statistics show that around 94% of users who search Google click on a result from the first page and less than 6% even look at page 2
  • Check the contact details of the online trader are clearly displayed on their website and read their terms and conditions and returns policy before placing an order
  •   Look carefully at photos and read descriptions thoroughly and don’t be afraid to contact the retailer if you have any questions at all
  • Try to shop with retailers who offer free shipping
  • Stay safe by using a secure payment gateway such as PayPal
·        If buying jewellery online as a gift, try not to leave it to the last minute in case it’s not what you expected when it arrives
  • Research products and prices thoroughly to ensure you get the best deal
Of course there are pro’s and con’s when shopping for jewellery online, but if you’re careful and follow a few simple guidelines, the whole experience can be both enjoyable and much more convenient than shopping on the high street.
